Seeing the tough men on their sturdy horses ploughing through the waves is definitely worth a trip! Shrimp fishing on horseback in Oostduinkerke' has been recognised by UNESCO as a cultural heritage site.
During the months of March, April, May, September, October and November, the horse fishermen follow the rhythm of nature and fish at the Schipgatduinen (St. André) and at Groenendijk.
In July and August, they demonstrate their traditional skills almost daily at the centre of Oostduinkerke-Bad.
On www.paardevissers.be you will find a complete overview of the demonstrations, whether or not followed by cooking the shrimp on the dike.
